Subhadra Yojana has transformed a house help into an entrepreneur. Mamata Nanda, who earned her living as a house help in Rugudipada, Balangir is now a proud businesswoman, thanks to Odisha government’s women-centric welfare scheme, Subhadra. She now has her own snack shop near Biju Patnaik Children’s Park in the town.
Earlier, Mamata worked as a cook in various houses and also helped in other household jobs. When she found out about the government’s Subhadra scheme, she too expressed her interest in becoming a beneficiary under the scheme. She was overjoyed to receive her first instalment of Rs 5000, and decided to put it to good use. She set up her own snacks stall, and gradually succeeded in becoming the main breadwinner of her family.
After receiving her second instalment, she thought of diversifying her business and started selling idli and aloo paratha, in the same snacks shop. She now leads her life with dignity and self-respect.
Like Mamata Nanda, many other women too have been able to set up their own business and become financially independent, after receiving money from the Subhadra scheme of the government.
